What is Reformer Pilates and what benefits can I expect?Reformer Pilates is an exercise method based on the principles of Joseph Pilates: Breath, Concentration, Centre, Control, Precision and Flow. The Pilates method, created by Joseph Pilates in the late 1800’s, was focused on being balanced in Body Mind and Spirit. In the years since, Pilates has been developed to suit the modern exercise world and the above principles are applied to both Fitness-based classes as well as Clinical Rehabilitation. Pilates aims to strengthen your body, from the inside - out. We take the time and care to teach you how to use the muscles with correct technique, so that you strengthen the body while using the deep core stability muscles. You can expect to improve your posture and general strength, while increasing your body awareness and control.

I’m pregnant. Can I still attend Reformer Pilates?Congratulations! We’re so pleased to hear you are keen to continue with an exercise program to support your body through pregnancy. Please note that we do require written clearance from your treating Medical Professional to join us at the studio whilst pregnant. As soon as you discover that you are pregnant, we recommend to book a 1:1 Pilates session with our Pre-Natal Instructors Georgia, Shona or Meredith. This session is an important opportunity to discuss the current Pre-Natal exercise guidelines to ensure the safety of yourself and your growing little one. From this 1:1 session, you can discuss the best way to navigate exercising through your pregnancy, whether 1:1 Pilates or Small Group classes are most suitable for your pregnancy journey.
-
How soon after giving birth can I resume Reformer Pilates? We require you to wait until after your 6-week Post-Natal check with a medical professional before considering your return to Reformer Pilates. Depending on how you feel and any issues you may be experiencing, we may recommend visiting a specialist Women’s Pelvic Health Physiotherapist prior to resuming Pilates.
